Microfiber

Microfiber has really revolutionized the detailing industry.  The term “microfiber” refers to the ultra small synthetic fibers used in the manufacturing process.  The fibers are constructed of both polyester and polyamide and are split to create microscopic pockets in the fibers themselves. These pockets are exceedingly good at picking up dust, dirt and polish residue without scratching the surface.

These fibers are 1/100th the size of a human hair and absorb seven times their weight in water.  Combine this with their ability to trap small particles and you have a very safe and effective towel for your detailing needs.

An important aspect of microfiber is the weave. By varying the way the towel is put together, you can alter the characteristics.  For example, you can make a towel with a higher nap that specializes in quick detailing.  Combine microfiber’s water absorbing ability with a waffle texture and the result is an excellent drying towel.  Even varying the ratio of polyester and polyamide can affect the absorbency or softness of the towel .

Like any product, there are various pricing levels.  With microfiber, you truly get what you pay for.  Lower-priced towels do not have the tight manufacturing specifications and materials of the more expensive ones and can scratch your finish.  You will probably end up with a large collection of towels, each with its own dedicated task.

Caring for your towels isn't hard, but special attention does need to be paid.  Always wash your microfiber towels by themselves and never with regular clothing.  The microfiber towels will quickly fill with the lint from the normal materials.  Also, be sure to use a soap like Micro-Restore to wash them. You do not want to use any soap that contains bleach or fabric softener.  Air dry your towels or put them in the dryer on the low heat setting.  Drying them at high heat will destroy the material and excessive drying will give them a static charge.
